How to Grow Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass is the wheat plant’s young grass. This grass is helpful in improving our health conditions because it is rich in minerals, amino acids, enzymes as well and vitamins.

The grass is commonly mixed with delectable drinks like mixed fruit and vegetable juices.

Some of the nutrients that you can get from this grass are beta carotene, potassium, vitamin E, calcium, and vitamin C.

Because of the health benefits of wheatgrass, many people like to cultivate or grow the grass in their places.

To learn how to grow wheatgrass, below are the systematic procedures and materials that you will need for growing the grass.

Materials Needed

To start the project, you need several packs of wheatgrass seeds, which you can purchase from local nurseries or local gardening stores.

Aside from these, you need a jar, peat moss, planting soil, growing trays, and spraying bottles.

The other materials that you will use for cultivating wheatgrass are scissors, organic compost, and fertilizer.

Procedures

When buying packets of wheatgrass seeds, you should choose those that have five pounds of organic seed. After purchasing the seeds, soak them in a jar filled with water for eight hours to 12 hours.

Mix the moss with the soil in the gardening tray. The ratio of the mixture should be 1 to 3.

Apply fertilizer or organic compost in the soil. Fill the spray bottles with water. Afterward, sprinkle the seeds on the soil.

Use the excess peat moss to cover the seeds. Water the peat moss every morning and spray water at night. Do this for three consecutive days.

Where does wheatgrass grow? The grass grows well in the part of the house that does not have direct sunlight.

Let the grass stay in this place for 10 days. Harvest the grass. Trim the grass as soon as it reaches seven inches.

Additional Tips and Information

Always check the grass. Make sure that there are no molds surrounding the grass. To avoid mold development, it is best that you put a fan above the growing trays.

The packets of wheatgrass seeds that are not used should be stored inside the refrigerator. You can store unused seeds for at most 10 days. As soon as you harvest the grass, you need to discard the soil.

You can start harvesting the grass a week after you cut grasses that grow seven inches. If ever you plant the seeds in your backyard, always watch out for weeds that grow near the wheatgrass.
